STRONGER NEWS - Summer 2026 - Explain Book Banning to Kids; Call for Publishers; Fight the National Book Bans, and More

We hope you’re finding some joy this summer, and please know how much we appreciate your being a freedom to read advocate!

We hope you’re finding some joy this summer, and please know how much we appreciate your being a freedom to read advocate!

1. Flummoxed at explaining Book Banning to little ones? Our friends at the ACLU have put together this excellent video for kids.

2. From our friends at School Library Journal, here’s an article about a year after the terrible SCOTUS ruling in Mahmoud vs. Taylor.

3. Call for Independent Publishers! Apply before Aug 30, 2026 to be considered for the next cohort of publishers We Are Stronger Than Censorship buys books from to donate (helping us offset all these book challenges).

4. If you’re in the USA, please help us fight the national book banning bills. EveryLibrary has set up this webpage with six easy actions you can take right now.

5. Take further action by voting - and make sure you’re registered to vote! Our friends at the American Library Association have this Reader Voter Ready program to help.

6. New STRONGER partner! Books Unbanned is a very cool program of the Brooklyn Public Library that offers ANY youth age 13-21 in the country a library card so they can take out any digital ebook or audiobook and use any database, giving them access to many of the materials that they can't get in their own locales due to book bans.

With thanks and appreciation for all you do,

Lee and Tasslyn
