'We Are Stronger Than Censorship Campaign' to Combat Book Bans Nationwide
Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA), EveryLibrary, and the EveryLibrary Institute are proud to announce the upcoming launch of the "We Are Stronger Than Censorship" campaign, an initiative designed to address the challenge of book bans and censorship across the nation.
At the center of this campaign is the pledge to distribute over 2,000 inclusive books to areas most affected by censorship, reinforcing the vital role that diverse voices play in promoting understanding and empathy within our communities.
The collaboration underscores a commitment to safeguarding the freedom of expression and ensuring that readers have access to a wide array of perspectives, particularly those from under-represented communities. This initiative signals a strategic response to the disproportionate impact book bans have on independent publishers and aims to facilitate access to diverse, high-quality literature.
Funding for these efforts will be generated through a combination of IBPA's quarterly bookstore catalog revenues (from Fall 2024 to Summer 2025), private donations, and the sale of campaign-related merchandise. Moreover, the campaign benefits from the backing of various industry stakeholders, including contributions in terms of design, public relations, and digital campaigning from esteemed entities like Lerner Publishing Group, Monkey C Media, STRATEGIES PR, and EveryLibrary, amongst others.
Scheduled for a public launch on September 9, 2024, with activities extending through August 2025, the campaign has garnered support from notable industry professionals.
