Library to host free silent disco Sept. 8

JACKSON, Wyo. — The Teton County Library is inviting people of all ages to dance like nobody is listening.

The library will hold a silent disco in an effort to boost mental health and build community, according to its press release. A similar event has held last fall.

A silent disco is a dance party that relies on wireless headphones instead of traditional speakers. The library will provide participants with wireless headphones that can access a variety of channels, so dancers can scroll through different genres and pick the music that makes them want to boogie. The disco is only silent to anyone not wearing the headphones.

“We were looking for a way to support the community’s mental health awareness initiatives when we debuted the silent disco last year,” Teton County Library Adult Services Librarian Anna Barker said in a press release. “We found that participants enjoyed the interplay of generations and dancing in an environment that isn’t centered around alcohol; we hope last year’s guests will return and that more will join in to benefit from the physical and mental health boosts brought on by movement, music and community-building.“ 

The disco will go down on Friday, Sept. 8, from 6 to 9:30 p.m. in the Youth Wing Outdoor Area. In the event of rain, festivities will move into the Ordway Auditorium.

Tickets are free and required for entry. Get tickets at the Jackson Main Library front desk before disco night.

Because the silent disco will extend beyond the library’s opening hours, guests can access the Youth Wing Outdoor Area through the gate at the south end of the library on Virginian Lane (near the intersection of Virginian Lane and Snow King Avenue). No outside food or drink is allowed.
