WLA School Library Interest Group Gathers for 3-Day Conference

The Wyoming Library Association’s School Library Interest Group (SLIG) hosted a 3-day conference at the T.A. Ranch outside of Buffalo, Wyoming.

The Wyoming Library Association’s School Library Interest Group (SLIG) hosted a 3-day conference at the T.A. Ranch outside of Buffalo, Wyoming in early August.

This was the first gathering in many years, and almost 30 participants were able to network and learn from one another during the Summit. Some highlights included a writing wellness session with authors Matt Daly and Lucy Flood; a Zoom session with State Superintendent of Public Instruction; Megan Degenfelder; and a presentation by Wyoming author; Nanci Turner Steveson. Session topics included creating standards based lessons around picture books from WLA's Buckaroo Awards list, helping to connect boys with books in secondary schools, a panel on best practices for collection development policies, and a share-out of favorite tech tools from librarians. The summit was funded by the Wyoming State Library and Wyoming Library Association, and concluded with a business meeting in order to establish future leadership roles for the group. SLIG hopes to make this an annual event, and to continue to serve the school librarians and school library staff across our state.
