Wyoming Roving Archivist Program Launches Directory

Wyoming archival holdings published a directory through the Wyoming Roving Archivist Program (RAP).

The Wyoming Roving Archivist Program (RAP) has published its directory, a list of institutions in Wyoming with archival holdings.

Explore the new directory at rovingarchivist.wyo.gov/directory.

The directory is part of the first phase of a National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC) grant-funded collaboration between the University of Wyoming’s American Heritage Center, the Wyoming State Archives, and the Wyoming State Historical Records Advisory Board (WY SHRAB). The first phase of the project has focused on conducting a needs assessment survey, which took place in late 2022 and early 2023, creating recommendations based on the survey results, and building an online directory of cultural heritage institutions in Wyoming with archival holdings.

Initial entries were identified based on the results of the needs assessment survey. Institutions who identified either their primary or secondary function to be archival or indicated they held materials which were archival in nature were included. Institutions can and will be added in the future, and institutions can request to be removed.

The directory is meant to be a living record that will change over time. As it currently exists, only minimal information is included, such as addresses and website links. A major goal with the RAP is to work collaboratively with the cultural heritage institutions of Wyoming to best serve their needs.

The program is asking for input and assistance in populating the directory, and has published it as it currently exists for Wyoming cultural institutions to browse and consider. They are seeking input about the current layout, functionality, and what information should be included. They are also requesting comment on this draft document that will be used for institutions to provide their listing information.
